Fireworks will shoot over 200 meters into the sky during the 2009 Hangzhou 11th Fireworks Show. The show, an important part of the 11th West Lake International Expo, will start at 19:45 on Oct 24 and will be the first time in four years it has been held at the West Lake. Previous fireworks shows were held by the Qiantang River.

Thousands of people from Hangzhou and beyond are expected to attend the annual event, where they will witness a grand fireworks display setting the skies ablaze. Spectators can view the splendid sight in a large open area along the West Lake and the Grand Canal. This year marks the first time a show has been held at the Canal.
Over 200 portable toilets as well as 20 temporary sales booths have been set up in the show areas in anticipation of the large crowds.
“Charming West Lake, Human Grand Canal” is the theme of this year’s show, in which 100,000 fireworks will be set off by hundreds of workers along the West Lake and the Grand Canal. The fireworks show will last for 40 minutes.
Dozens of media have been invited to report the event, including Hangzhou Television, Wasu Info, FM89, Xinhua.net, Zhejiang Online, Hangzhou.com and xh-expo.com, who will air a live broadcast.
The West Lake International Expo Organizing Committee will install sets of wireless hi-fi equipment along the show areas to create a fantastic musical fireworks show. . As the show area will be very crowded with a predicted large turnout, it is suggested to get there by bus or simply by foot.
