National Day show parade in Zhejiang

2009-September-29 09:25:44

More than 800 hundred years old, Yuhang gundeng is a form of competitive folk dance performed during holidays, celebrations, and lantern festivals in ancient times. Yuhang farmers used gundeng to celebrate an abundant year and harvest.

Gundeng is an ancient kind of lamp comprised of a ball woven out of bamboo, with a lit candle inside. It comes in three sizes; small, medium, and large. Yuhang is in the suburbs of Hangzhou City and there are many temple fairs there.

The climax of the tour was Chinese revolutionary song We workers have power by a cast of iron workers, construction workers, railway workers, and textile workers. A group of disabled peoples wheeled along by nurses was received with hearty rounds of applause.

The event, the first artistic parade to celebrate the 60th anniversary in Zhejiang province, was jointly organized by Zhengjiang publicity department and Hangzhou publicity department.
