Facilitated by China National Tourist Office, Toronto, "Thousand Islands Lake" of Canada and "Thousand Islands Lake" of Zhejiang in China, both beautiful tourist attractions which are thousands of miles apart but bearing identical names, signed Sino-Canadian Thousand Islands Friendship Cooperation Agreement on 13 September, 2009, officially becoming “Sino-Canadian friendship resorts”.

Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Standing Committee member and Honorary President of the China Tourism Association Mr. He Guangwei, as Head of the Chinese Delegation, addressed the signing ceremony, saying that the joining hands of the two friendship resorts had built a bridge of friendship for the Sino-Canadian tourism exchanges, bringing the historical cooperation of Sino-Canadian scenic resorts into reality. And he expressed his hope that the cooperation between the two “Thousand Islands Lakes” as well as more scenic resorts of the two countries could be further enhanced, realizing the mutual-benefit goal of “Mutual Information Exchange, Resources Sharing, Tourist Source Contributions of the Two Sides and Cooperative Development”, and doing positive bit to the development of tourism and the friendship between the two countries.
Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Ontario's Premier Dalton McGuinty sent congratulatory letters for the signing ceremony, congratulating the signing of cooperation agreement between the two “Thousand Islands”, and also expressing their best wishes to the prospects of such a cooperation and Sino-Canadian friendship as a whole.
