Taobao opens new Beijing branch

Chinese Internet shopping platform Taobao.com has confirmed that the company opened up a new branch in Beijing.

According to an insider, who works at Taobao.com, the new operation which is currently located at the Winterless Center in Chaoyang district will soon move to a bigger two-floor office at the Taikang Financial Tower.

Wu Yongming, former general manager of Alimama.com, was appointed as the general manager for the Beijing branch, which has already employed over 300 staff.

The online company was originally established as an online auction platform mainly engaged in C2C e-commerce businesses.

Its parent company Alibaba invested 450 million yuan in Taobao.com in 2003.

In September 2008, Alibaba announced its plans to merge its two subsidiaries, Taobao.com and Alimama.com, into one company namely Taobao.
