Jackie Chan attended the opening ceremony of Long Zixin School in Micun village in Henan province and was appointed as honorary master, Dahe.cn reported on Oct 16, 2008.
Chan, a world-famous action actor, donated more than 1 million yuan (about $157,000) from profits earned by auctioning one of his own properties.
"When I was poor, a lot of people helped me. That's when I decided I would help more people when I get rich."
Henan province is just one of numerous stops in the actor's charitable trip.
"Charity, to me, is a life-long career. I will devote all I have to it and never regret," Chan said.
