Ancient coming-of-age ceremony revived in Xi’an

Nearly 40 young people dressed in traditional Han Chinese clothing revived the ancient coming-of-age ceremony outside the Han Great Wall relics in Xi’an on May 1, 2013, which has attracted great attention from tourists. The Han Dynasty ceremony dates back thousands of years. The core of the ritual lies in the act of granting headwear to young people, “guan” for men and “ji” for women. After the headwear is granted, the recipients are deemed as adults with social and family responsibilities.[Photo/CNS]
