The composer and conductor Johan Strauss visited the United States in 1872 at the invitation of US broker Gilmore. His tour proved a great success and promoted the development of classical music in the United States.
The legendary experience has been adapted into a musical drama, The Beautiful Blue Danube - The Story of Johann Strauss' 1872 US Tour, which was produced by the National Center For the Performing Arts.
The musical takes a variety of artistic expression forms, including music, dance and drama. It not only resounds with classic songs created by Strauss but also unveils what he saw and heard on his visit to the US.
7:30 pm, Sept 18-21. National Center for the Performing Arts, 2 West Chang'an Avenue, Xicheng district, Beijing. 010-6655-0000.
