Sichuan artist Liu Yaming is staging a touring exhibition of oil portraits, and philosophically charged epic paintings.
On display until Sept 23 at the National Art Museum of China in Beijing are more than 40 of his oil portraits.
The centerpiece is a 16 meter long and 3 meter high painting entitled Road to Freedom.
The work, created from 2007-2009, shows a doomsday scene, the sky full of dust and debris and people running around wildly.
After its Beijing appearance, the exhibition will move to Chongqing.
