More than 6,000 people attended on Sunday night the 2007 Beijing New Year Concert staged by the Beijing Symphony Orchestra and well-known Philharmonia Orchestra.

Sir Andrew Davis, one of Britain's leading conductors, and Chinese conductor Tan Lihua jointly directed the concert, held in the Great Hall of the People in the heart of Beijing, bringing a feast for classical music lovers.

Among the star performers were Violinist Ning Feng, tenor Fan Jingma and Mexican soprano Eugenia Garza. Famous young Chinese pianist Li Yundi performed his repertoire Liszt's "Piano Concerto No. 1."

Eleven years after its debut, the Beijing New Year Concert has become a major cultural festivity on the eve of a new year.

Li Changchun, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, applauded the excellent performance of the musicians.
