"I of course wish for more peace and more peaceful movements from my own government," Stone told reporters Monday.

The star of the erotic thriller "Basic Instinct" was speaking prior to the concert during which Yusuf Islam, better known as former singer Cat Stevens, was due to make a rare public appearance.

The British singer who converted to Islam 30 years ago said on Monday he wanted to be a "bridge" between the Muslim and Western worlds.

"It is because of that in a way that I come back to sing again," Islam said, who recently released his first album in 28 years.

"Because I am in a unique position, as a looking glass perhaps, through which the West can see Islam and Muslims can see the West," he added.

Micro-credit pioneer Muhammad Yunus of Bangladesh and the Grameen Bank he founded in 1983 received the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize on Sunday for helping millions of people to lift themselves out of poverty.

"Certainly when Dr Yunus went around and said 'I give 27 dollars to 40 people and now I think I can help millions of people' I'm sure that anybody that he talked to thought that he was a complete ass," Stone said.

"And now look at what this man has done," she added.
