"Monster House" will return to theaters in October ahead of its DVD release.
Sony Pictures' animated feature will play on more than 100 3-D screens for two weeks beginning October 6. It will come out on DVD October 24.
There had been speculation that Sony wanted to open "Monster" around Halloween, which is when the action is set, but the filmmakers pressed for a summer release. The film was executive-produced by Robert Zemeckis and Steven Spielberg.
"We were all in agreement that either time would have been a good time to release the film," said Rory Bruer, Sony's president of domestic theatrical distribution. "It's hard to ignore the summer when the weekdays are always so good. The potential to bring it back prior to the DVD release was always there. Now we have another shot at it."
"Monster" has grossed $67.8 million after five weeks in release.
