LOS ANGELES - Will Smith has weighed in on one of his next projects, a drama called "Seven Pounds."
The Columbia Pictures project centers on a man who falls in love with a woman while attempting to kill himself. No director is attached to "Seven Pounds." The script was written by TV veteran Grant Nieporte ("8 Simple Rules," "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch"), and marks his first film screenplay to be developed.
Smith returns to theaters at the end of the year with Columbia's curiously titled true-life drama "Pursuit of Happyness." He next will shoot the long-in-development "I Am Legend" for Warner Bros.
Smith also has signed on to star in Columbia's "Tonight, He Comes," which has been pushed back to a 2007 start date after director Gabriele Muccino dropped out. Muccino also directed "Happyness."
He was last in theaters with Columbia's 2005 romantic comedy hit "Hitch."
