The Recessive Umbilical Cord, one of the 2012 Shanghai Biennale's Zhongshan Park special projects, opens today.
Running until Nov 13 at the V Art Center at No 50 Moganshan Road, the exhibition presents over 50 works by the so-called 2436a Art Group, formed by a dozen returned Chinese artists from France, as well as masterpieces by some veteran Chinese artists who have taken residence in France.
Among them are Fang Qi, Gao Jie, Gao Yan, Li Qingbin, Lin Yuyan, Ma Chong, Wang Chengliang, Zao Woo-ki, Chu Teh-chun, and Wu Guanzhong.
"These artists, with different ages, have something in common. They deny simple symbols that might be attached to them, but aim at searching for deep cultural connotations with their works," says curator Xiao Ge.
The exhibition can be seen every day from 11 am to 6 pm, except on Mondays.
