Twenty percent of fireworks tested in 2013 by the country's quality watchdog did not meet the national standard, the administration said in a news conference on Friday.

The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine tested 360 batches of fireworks produced by 254 plants last year and found 75 batches did not meet the quality standard.

The tested products came from 62 plants in 12 provinces, including Hebei, Anhui and Jiangxi.

The administration said it had asked the provinces to dispose of the problematic fireworks and it will continue to monitor the quality of the products.

Also in the conference, the administration announced that since Sept 1, all child car seats should pass a compulsory certification process before being sold.

It also mentioned child seat factories can entrust certain institutions to certify their products since Sept 1.
