'Beibu Bay Silicon Valley' plan receives approval

The Beihai Electronic Information Industry Base Construction Plan (2012-2020), which bears strategic importance to the development of the Beibu Bay Economic Zone in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, passed expert review on Dec 20.

The Beihai electronic information industry will speed up development and achieve sales revenue of more than 100 billion yuan ($16 billion) by 2015 and 180 billion yuan by 2020, the plan states.

Beihai established Guangxi's first electronic information industry base as early as March 2006, aiming to promote the city's electronic information industry and build "Beibu Bay Silicon Valley".

Beihai made the electronic information industry its pillar industry in January 2010. It set a goal to realize sales revenue of 100 billion yuan by 2015.

After years of effort, the electronic information industry in Beihai has made great progress in regards to industrial scale, product level and scientific innovation. The output of electronic information scale enterprises reached 26.03 billion yuan in 2011. The figure was 2.56 billion yuan in 2006.

It is expected that electronic information enterprises in the city will realize an industrial output value of 50 billion yuan, a year-on-year growth of 65.56 percent.
