The Tianjin municipal traffic authority said it would not limit cars on the roads in line with their plate numbers on Monday as the city's environmental administration announced the restriction too late on Sunday, Xinhua News Agency reported on Monday.
The environmental authority said on Sunday evening that cars would be restricted in accordance with the last digit of their plate numbers because the city expected heavy smog on the following days, the report said.
The administration posted the restricted plate numbers on its official micro blog at around 9 pm, the report said.
Later, however, the traffic authority said on its micro blog that the restriction would not be enforced on Monday, since the limit was announced too late to carry out, the report said.
