China's top legislature plans to review 47 new draft laws and amendments in five years, according to a legislative agenda revealed on Wednesday.

The planned laws and amendments cover a range of issues, such as basic medical care, land management, pollution, telecoms, charities and railways.

A further 21 laws and amendments are also in urgent need of review and their legislative progress will be fast-tracked, according to the plan released by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress. These laws include those concerning e-commerce, joint ventures, management of detention houses and domestic violence.

Zhang Dejiang, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, stressed that China's legislation should be based on practical conditions in the country, and should not blindly copy practices in other countries.

He also stressed the importance of transparent legislation and public participation.

The new NPC Standing Committee was elected in March. When a new committee is formed, it makes a legislative plan for its tenure of five years.
