Musicians in China should compose more and better songs for children in order to give them a healthier, more positive childhood, according to Tan Jing, a popular young singer and an NPC deputy.
"Music is one of the most effective means of communication and expression," said Tan. "I hope the government will encourage people to compose songs with good content especially for children. Most songs our kids sing nowadays do not belong to the world of children and do not help to form good character."
According to Tan, a survey conducted in 2011 found that 93% of all popular songs in China are romantic songs; only 7% aim to encourage people.
"Music communicates with hardly any language or age barrier", Tan said. "I hope songs designed for children will give them with a clear picture of life and help them to pursue a brighter future."
