Agricultural scientists and technicians are urgently required to develop growth in the industry in South China, Guangxi News Network reported Tuesday.
Deputies from Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region to National People's Congress (NPC) have called for action to improve development in the region.
Wei Fenping, a deputy from Pingnan county, which is a production base of the cassava melon, said the county is in urgent need of agricultural technicians to boost the scale of production.
"Some technicians in the towns are getting too old to occupy the same posts for decades and new ones have no chance to get in," said Nong Yimei, a deputy from Daxin county.
Lan Shengxin, a deputy from Tengxian county, said, "work units at county level are not able to attract graduates with bachelor's degree, not to mention graduates with master's degree."
Lan suggests "stepping up reform of the current framework to build better systems and offer higher pay to attract and keep talent".
