The Ministry of Environmental Protection has urged local authorities to guarantee the accuracy and reliability of PM2.5 monitoring statistics, the Legal Evening News reported on Wednesday.
In line with the ministry's timetable, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and municipal and provincial capital cities in the Yangtze River Delta and Pearl River Delta will release surveillance information on PM2.5, an air quality gauge monitoring particles 2.5 micrometers or less in diameter, by the end of 2012.
Wu Xiaoqing, vice-minister of environmental protection, stressed that no intervention or fraud regarding statistics is allowed in the PM2.5 surveillance process. Also the monitoring information should be released in ways the public can understand.
The Ministry of Environmental Protection will also take measures to examine the precision of the nationwide PM2.5 monitoring statistics.
