Chinese and Foreign Culture Week opens in Xinjiang

Chinese and Foreign Culture Week, an important activity of the 2nd China-Eurasia Expo, opened in Urumqi on Sept 1.

Hu Wei, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region and minister of the Publicity Department of Xinjiang, said in his speech that artistic woven beauties and cultural depiction of the Silk Road becomes even more significant when a new trade route, energy channel, culture bridge is constructed.

It is reported that the 2nd China-Eurasia Expo will be held on Sept 2. During the Expo, a number of themed events will show up in turn, including China-Eurasia Economic Development and Cooperation Forum, Shanghai Cooperation Organization Business Day, China-Eurasia Expo Media Forum, China-Eurasia Investment Promotion Agencies Roundtable, Shanghai Cooperation Organization Youth Friendly Exchanges, Chinese and Foreign Culture Week, and Open Corps, cooperation and Win-Win.

According to the report, the Chinese and Foreign Culture Week features three themed art exhibitions, namely "Height" – 2012 Xinjiang 1st Biennial Exhibition of Contemporary Art, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan Fine Arts Exhibition, Datang City Colourful Painted Silk Road Art Exhibition, and includes three themed professional performances, namely Serbia ballet "Sacred Ground of Love"， large-scale ethnic song and dance "Beautiful Xinjiang" and " Spring of Muqam" .

At the Xinjiang 1st Biennial Exhibition of Contemporary Art, more than latest 150 outstanding works by hundred international and domestic influential and innovative artists, including Chen Danqing, Fang Lijun, and Luo Zhongli, will stroke a pose at the stage. The Six Countries Fine Arts Exhibition will bring together nearly 80 exquisite oil paintings, among which 42 authentic works by Russian painting masters will be unveiled for the first came in Xinjiang. The "Colourful Painted Silk Road " Fine Arts Exhibition will display 56 oil paintings, covering the Silk Road cultural celebrities, vicissitudes of ancient buildings, charm of modern city, exotic natural beauty and colorful humanities.

Taking Xinjiang's culture of desert grassland and plateaus in four seasons as its magnificent background and the song, dance, music and living customs of 13 main ethnic groups in Xinjiang as its elements, the performance, " Xinjiang of Grand Beauty" , is divided into five chapters: Grand Shape, Grand Passion, Grand Love, Grand Sound and Grand Beauty. It will present ingenious stage effects by multimedia images and large stage machinery.

The Serbia ballet， "Sacred Ground of Love"， will be presented by the Maderianum Ballet, a state-level professional performance team as well as the benchmark of music and dance performances in Serbia. It is the first time for the team to come to Xinjiang.

" Spring of Muqam", one repertoire of the major cultural events of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, will also be staged. The play collects the classic imperial and folk Uyghur Muqam Art of different styles. It consists of two parts. The first part is the love-chant based "Ushaq Maqam", which is the condensed version of the eighth set of Uyghur Muqam. The Second part is concatenated by the fragments of strong local characteristics, i.e. "Turpan Muqam", "Hami Muqam" and "Dolan Muqam".

It is known that the Chinese and Foreign Culture Week is themed as "weaving beauties along the Silk Road with art works and depicting elegant demeanour of humanity ". The event is organized by the Ministry of Culture of China, the People's Government of Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, and divided into three sections, namely "Xinjiang of Ethnic Harmony", "Xinjiang of Cultural Opening", and " Xinjiang of Art Prosperity".
