Tourists in Yunnan province may have to pay 10 yuan ($1.57) a day for the protection of Dianchi Lake, yunnan.cn reported Tuesday.
Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan province, plans to charge compensation fees for Dianchi Lake, the largest fresh water lake in the southwestern province, according to a new regulation on the protection of the lake.
Each visitor will ask to pay 10 yuan a day for ecological compensation if they stay in a hotel within six counties and districts along the lake, including Wuyuan, Jinning county, Panlong and Guandu district, which cover more than 2,900 square kilometers in total.
According to the municipal government of Kunming, the new rule aims to increase people's awareness of Dianchi protection.
