Two people related to an accident last month that led to the death of bus driver Wu Bin visited the victim's family on June 14, after the family demanded apologies.
According to a report by the Qianjiang Evening News on June 15, Lei Heping, vice-president of a transport association in Gao'an, Jiangxi province, and a man surnamed Yu who was on the truck when a metal shard flew off the truck and smashed the windshield of Wu's bus, stayed briefly at the late driver's home in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, on Thursday morning.
"We wanted to come earlier but the trip was delayed because of the police's request to support the investigation," Lei was quoted as saying.
The two men took flowers and some cash in an envelope. They bowed three times toward a portrait of Wu.
The family kept the flowers but declined the money.
The report also said that Wu's father asked if Yu was the truck driver but the man quickly denied.
The 48-year-old Wu Bin died a few days after the metal shard that flew off the truck's brake hub smashed his bus windshield and wounded him on a highway in Jiangsu on May 29.
Wu was later hailed as a national hero because he tried to protect the 24 passengers on board despite the severe injuries.
Police said the matter was a "pure accident" and decided that the truck driver should not be held criminally responsible.
But Wu's family expected the truck driver - identified by police as Zhao - to show up and say sorry to the family.
Wu Bingxin, Wu Bin's elder sister, used strong words on the Internet earlier this week.
"The entire family feels sad and hurt by the truck driver who has yet to show up and say sorry to us," the woman said on her micro blog.
Later, the woman said that any apology from the truck driver would now come too late and the family wouldn't accept it any longer.
"We are saddened by the truck driver's indifference," the woman said. "With such indifference, can you be sure that you will not endanger another ‘Wu Bin'?"
After the arrival of the pair, Wu Bingxin said the family felt somewhat gratified.
