The 2012 China Beijing International Energy Saving and Environmental Protection Exhibition was unveiled on June 10 at the Beijing Exhibition Center.

The four-day exhibition serves as a platform for some 300 enterprises from home and abroad, with their latest and most up-to-date energy-saving products, technology and services, to further support the development of the recycling economy.

"With more subsidies going into the recycling economy in the future, more households will be entitled to environmental protection and energy saving products," Xie Zhenhua, deputy director of the National Development and Reform Commission, said during the opening ceremony.

"2012 is a crucial year for energy saving and emission reduction for the country," he added.

According to the committee of the exhibition, despite an 8.1 percent economic growth, energy consumption in the capital increased 0.6 percent in the year 2011.

In addition, the presence of sulfur dioxide, nitric oxide, chemical oxygen demand (which measures the amount of organic pollutants found in surface water) and ammonia nitrogen showed a year-on-year decrease of 6.22 percent, 4.75 percent, 3.53 percent and 2.98 percent.

The exhibition also highlights the 23rd China Energy Saving Week, which has been held every second week of June since the year 1990.

The exhibition covers an area of 20,810 square meters, the largest ever. Some 15,000 professional visitors are estimated to be present during the show.
