CHONGQING - He Ting was appointed vice mayor of Southwest China's Chongqing municipality and head of the municipal Public Security Bureau at the 30th session of the Standing Committee of the third Chongqing Municipal People's Congress Friday.
Wang Lijun, former vice mayor and police chief, was deposed, according to the decisions of the committee.
He Ting, born in 1962, is a Ph.D. holder and served as head of the Criminal Investigation Department at the Ministry of Public Security, before becoming vice governor of northwest China's Qinghai province between 2009 and 2012.
Wang has been under investigation after he entered without authorization the US general consulate in the city of Chengdu on February 6 and left after one day, according to the office of the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
