The Shanghai No 1 Intermediate People’s Court upheld a three-and-a-half year jail sentence on Monday for Wang Jiajing, a 24-year-old man who caused a stir last year by stabbing his mother at Shanghai’s Pudong International Airport.
Wang attacked his mother, surnamed Gu, with two daggers on March 31, 2011, when Gu told him she would no longer provide financial support for his studies in Japan, according to court records. Wang left Gu lying in a pool of blood after stabbing her in the head, arms, abdomen and back.
Gu appealed to the higher court in November after her son was sentenced to three-and-a-half years by the Pudong New Area People’s Court for causing intentional injury. She told the court she believed her son was mentally disturbed when he assaulted her.
