WUHAN - Two nurses have been granted a reward of 100,000 yuan ($15,754) for giving information that led to the arrest of a suspect in a bombing case in central China, police announced Saturday.

The two, whose names have been concealed for safety purpose, work at a hospital in Wuhan, capital of Hubei province. They called the police on Friday after they identified one of their patients as resembling wanted man Wang Haijian, based on pictures and information previously distributed by the police.

Police rushed to the hospital and arrested Wang upon confirming his identity through camera surveillance, according to a press release from the Wuhan Public Security Bureau.

The blast occurred outside a branch of China Construction Bank in the Hongshan district of Wuhan at about 5:30 pm on December 1, leaving two dead and 15 others injured. Police publicized the photo of Wang on December 5, offering 100,000 yuan in reward for information which could lead to his arrest.

The reward amount is the highest ever given by Wuhan police.

Wang, 24, made the explosives himself in a bid to rob the bank, said local police.

Before the blast on Dec 1, Wang had experimented with setting off homemade explosives, injuring himself and spending time in hospital.

Once an owner of an electric repair shop, he is thought to be talented in working with electrical equipment.
