China is an important market with huge potential so we are holding the celebrations here, said Marcus Wilke-Tyczka, managing director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles in China.
T family vehicles belonging to all five generations in the past 65 years were displayed at the ceremony, and 118 Multivan Limited Editions 65th Anniversary were customized for the Chinese market.
Volkswagen introduced the T family, including the Multivan, Caravelle and California, in China in 2008.
Wilke-Tyczka said Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is satisfied with its performance in China and has set an ambitious plan for their growth in the future.
He said the MPV market will grow further as China has released a two-child policy, adding that many Europeans use the Multivan as a family car as they have more kids than the Chinese.
Wilke-Tyczka believes recreational vehicle California will also gain in popularity now that more and more people are going out to camp or travel on weekends or during holidays.
He said Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will focus on increasing the vehicles' popularity by exposing them to more and more Chinese customers in 2016. It has held road shows of its products in more than 10 cities this year.
