China will witness the start of a new chapter in the Discovery story with the Discovery Vision concept car showcased at the upcoming Beijing Auto Show starting from April 20. It introduces Land Rover's design vision for a new family of vehicles with an array of new styles and technologies.
Complementing the luxury models as a leisure option, the Discovery family extends the choices in SUVs available to Chinese customers.
"We have created the Vision concept to share the essence of Land Rover's new age of Discovery, and to debut a new, compelling, relevant design direction that connects on an emotional level with customers of today and tomorrow," said Gerry McGovern, design director and chief creativity officer for Land Rover.
Built on Land Rover's key principles of "emotive design, unrivalled capability and ultimate versatility", the new Discovery represents the essence of a future family of SUVs using new customer-focused advanced technologies.
A great example is the advanced driver-assist Transparent Bonnet technology, which when driving uphill at steep angles provides a virtual view of the path ahead which would otherwise be obscured by the vehicle bonnet.
Cameras mounted in the front grille are fed to a head-up display in front of the driver, allowing the driver to effectively see through the bonnet when the front of the vehicle is raised when climbing steep terrain.
