President Xi said in his keynote speech that we need to seize opportunities presented by the new round of change in energy mix and the revolution in energy technologies to develop global energy interconnection and achieve green and low-carbon development. I think President Xi articulated very clearly the fundamental rational for the energy transition that is happening in the world today, which needs to be an energy revolution for a clean future.
I think the idea he is putting forward is something that is in our hands today because we have the technology to make it happen. Imagine a future where we are able to produce huge amount of clean electricity very cheaply … This will dramatically reduce the problems that we have on environment and pollution. That is a big issue not only in China, but also other countries. It will also create a new paradigm for industrial development, rescaling people, creating new types of jobs, creating better-paid jobs, and in an industry that is less polluting. So I think that is a very positive vision for the future, and I fully agree with him on that.
