The Beijing Commission of Development and Reform announced on Thursday it has never produced a list of the city's enterprises to be relocated, Xinhua News Agency reported.
The announcement was in response to public concern over a recent widespread rumor the city had confirmed the names of 207 enterprises, most of consume high levels of energy and are heavy polluters, to be relocated to suburbs.
The source of the rumor was China Real Estate Business, which last Thursday reported that such a list had been sent to neighboring Tianjin municipality and Hebei province to pick those they would receive.
The companies were involved in industries such as chemicals, construction materials and garment textiles, the newspaper said.
The report gained public attention after the central authority recently recognized the importance of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei integrated development.
