BEIJING - Chinese Vice Premier Wang Yang has called for more efforts in developing agriculture to ensure food security and enrich farmers, according to an official statement issued on Tuesday.
China should step up work to increase agricultural production, said Wang at a recent national farming conference, the date of which was not specified by the statement.
He called for increases in the output of low and medium-yielding farmland, improved rural infrastructure, and the development of more quality farmland.
The vice premier emphasized promotion of agricultural technology and development of environmentally friendly agriculture.
To boost investment in this sector, Wang said China will increase fiscal input and try to mobilize more social capital.
