Bona Film Group, one of China's leading film producers and distributors, announced Friday that net revenue increased 42.1 percent year-on-year to $35 million in the third quarter, which ended Sept 30.
The Nasdaq-listed private film company attributed the increase primarily to the growth of its movie-theater and film-distribution sectors.
In the period, Bona distributed three films — Unbeatable, My Lucky Star and Out of Inferno 3D. It has invested in all three.
Unbeatable generated more than 152 million yuan ($25 million) in box-office receipts to date, while My Lucky Star took in 136.5 million yuan ($22.4 million) and the 3D production Out of Inferno reached 132.1 million yuan ($21.7 million), according to the announcement.
At the end of the period, Fosun Group, a leading company in industrial operations, property development, insurance and investment, purchased a 6.4 percent stake in Bona for $20.8 million. Bona said that it is now working actively with Fosun to identify how to best leverage each other's resources.
“We believe the investment in our company sends a strong message to the market that Bona is committed to achieving its goal of becoming China's largest non-State-owned film producer, distributor and exhibitor,” said Yu Dong, Bona's chairman and CEO.
