General Practitioners, also known as GPs, deal with a whole range of health problems. They provide health education, offer advice on smoking and diet, run clinics, give vaccinations and carry out simple surgical operations.
Haidian is the first district in Beijing to offer GP service.
According to officials 51 community health service centers, 185 community health service stations, and fifteen-minute community service circles have been set up and now nearly cover the entire district.
A total of 5,366 employees have been hired by the community health centers, consisting of 1,880 doctors, 432 health professionals, 1,333 nurses and another 1,721 workers. They are divided into 512 teams and allocated throughout the whole district.
Here are seven highlights of the service.
1. Improvements to the treatment environment are anticipated by the setting up of a grading diagnosis and treatment model which includes 19 hospitals and 50 community health centers.
2. The district government also sent 176 medical staff aboard for training and more than a hundred medical experts have been employed to coach the staff at community health centers.
3. “A big data platform is in process, which will make it convenient for citizens to see a doctor,” said a representative of the Beijing Municipal Health and Family Planning Commission.
4. “A-click” GP service is offered in Haidian district for citizens over 80 years old living with difficulties. The service has benefited more than 50,000 families and 57,000 individuals.
5. More than 260 assistants have been provided to the GP teams to help with medical work. Most assistants are local males with computer skills, about 37 years old with a high school diploma or below.
6. In a pilot project, six community health service centers are providing personalized treatment service for different groups, including those with high blood pressure or diabetes and the elderly disabled.
7. An evaluation system has been built to examine the GPs’ service according to established criteria and incentive measures have been adopted to improve the service’s quality.
