The National Development and Reform Commission announced on Nov 15 that the Beijing-Tanghan Intercity Railway plan has been approved and the project is on track to open in 2020.
The intercity railway will allow commuters to travel between Tangshan, Hebei province, to eastern Beijing in only an hour.
According to the National Development and Reform Commission, the railway will depart from the soon-to-be-built Beijing Rail Sub-Center Station and reach the Tangshan Station through Beijing, Langfang, Tianjin Baodi District, and Tangshan with a total of six stations and reach an average annual delivery of 50 million passengers. The entire railroad line will be 147.8 kilometers.
Investment for the railway was amounted to 44.9 billion yuan ($6.5 billion). The Beijing-Tianjin- Hebei Intercity Railway Investment Co, Ltd will assume the capital funding costs, and domestic banks will cover the rest.
The Beijing-Tangshan Intercity Railway will not only directly link the two cities, but add to the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei rail network.
“A crisscrossing, comprehensive transportation network will be built between three provinces and municipalities, including express ways and railways linking Chengde and Handan, Cangzhou and Tianjin, Shijiazhuang and Hengshui, and Zhangjiakou-Chengde-Qinghuangdao,” an official said, adding that the Tianjin Baodi South Station plans to be a railway hub by introducing Tianjin-Chengde and Beijing-Tianjin-Binhai intercity railways.
