The First National Electronic Sports Tournament, a large-scale comprehensive electronic sports competition, opened on Nov 4 in Beijing. The competition will be the most influential and authoritative e-sports event in China.
Twenty prizes will be awarded through the competition, including awards for developers of the most influential FPS e-sports, MOBA e-sports, virtual sports programs, and domestically-developed e-sports, as well as prizes for the best e-sports trainers, teams, and players. The tournament will take place over the next couple months through several different events and evaluations, with the final winners being announced in January 2017.

The invited competition judges are all experts in various e-sports industries and the judging team consists of 23 members. Judges will also cooperate with the organizers to research and participate in the industrial standard discussion to promote e-sports development in China.
Furthermore, the competition will be broadcast live through LeTV.

The competition is intended to acknowledge the outstanding entrepreneurs, enterprises, and programs that contribute to the promotion of e-sports and to award the excellent players who push the development of the industry in China.
At the opening ceremony of the competition, Ding Dong, director of the Sports Information Center of the General Administration of Sports of China, said electronic sports is a newly-developed sporting category born from the idea of Internet plus sports. It is a way to inspire players' teamwork and reward self-motivated bravery and spirit.

Ma Guoli, vice president of Lesports, suggested that electronic sports have become a common symbol and language world-wide and it is one of the key developing strategies of Lesports. China is paying more and more attention to developing e-sports programs and 24 commissions, including the National Development and Reform Commission, have listed electronic sports as an important vehicle for transforming and upgrading consumption in the country. Furthermore, a guiding opinion for accelerating the development of fitness and leisure industry, published by the General Office of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, referred to the further promotion of extreme sports, electronic sports, fencing, and golfing, and to expand the related training market.

Being the predominate institution tied to Chinese e-sports, the General Administration of Sports of China is committed to inspiring the sporting spirit of youth around the country and leading the industry to develop in a standardized and orderly fashion.
The event was sponsored by the Sports Information Center of the General Administration of Sports of China, CGA (a company focusing on organizing national e-sports contests), Lesports, and Wanplus, an online interactive platform for players to exchange ideas and communicate with each other.
