On Oct 12 Tsinghua Design Academic Week with a theme of “Architecture Genius·Artisan Spirit” opened in Beijing. Many famous architects and designers from China and elsewhere gathered to explore the origin, role and functions of architecture and redefine the role of modern architects.

Chen Feng, director of the National Center for Schooling Development Program, Ministry of Education, expressed warm congratulations to the opening of the event. He said school construction is of great significance because schools are not only vehicles of education, but also one of its component elements. The Architectural Design and Research Institute of Tsinghua University plays an important role in the field. “We are looking forward to seeing more of its achievements,” Chen said.

“Practice and academic study are the inseparable parts of architecture,” says Zhou Chang, former vice-president and secretary-general of the Architectural Society of China. He hoped the seminar will combine the latest practical experience with advanced theory to promote the development of the architectural design industry.
