The Information Office of Beijing Municipality and the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission held a joint press conference on September 23 in Beijing, focusing on the further construction of China's science and technology innovation center during the Thirteen Five Year Plan period.
At the conference, Yan Aoshuang, director of the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission, described the background and main content of the construction plan.
The plan consists of three sections and six chapters.
Section One summarizes the main achievements Beijing has made in science and technological innovation during the twelfth Five Year Plan and sets out the new missions for the city in the Thirteenth Plan.
Section Two describes the directions, basic principles and development goals and the last section covers construction of technology innovation centers from four aspects -- knowledge, techniques, cooperation and reforms.
According to the construction plan, Beijing will become a center of China's technological innovation and a world influential innovation center for science and technology, better able to support China as an innovative country.
The center of China's science and technology, Beijing has 766 academicians at the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, accounting for about 50 percent of the total number in China, and 412 scientific research institutions, ranking top in the country.
In addition, there are more than 12,000 high technological enterprises in the city, more than 30 percent of China’s total, and 3,800 entrepreneurship and equity investment management agencies caring for 1.6 trillion yuan ($240 billion) total management funds.
