The landmark stone for the birthplace of Peking Opera was officially placed at the square near the Ji Xiaolan Residence on Sept 6, which simultaneously marked the opening of the 2016 Dashilar Street Community Culture and Sports Festival.
The five golden Chinese characters — Jing Ju Fa Xiang Di, meaning the birthplace of Peking Opera — on the landmark stone was written by Wang Jinlu, a leader in Peking Opera and the poem on the back — The Birth of Peking Opera — was composed by Ma Tiehan, who is also a well-known opera actor.
