The 19th Beijing Art Expo, part of the 4th Beijing People’s Beneficial Cultural Consumption Season and a business platform for art institutions, artists and collectors, is set to open in the Beijing Exhibition Center on September 1, having attracted more than 100 local and overseas galleries and art institutions.

The Beijing Art Expo is the oldest art exposition in Beijing and has had many great exhibitions combining historical tradition and modern fashion with local specialties and a global view. It hopes to stimulate more sales through these exhibitions and energize the art market.

Wu Zhengtian, a media officer of the Expo, said, "The Beijing Art Expo has always been an important part of the Cultural Consumption Season and attracted many visitors. Therefore we hope that it can also motivate additional cultural consumption." According to Wu, visitors can get a 50% discount on admission tickets and a 10% discount on the purchase of exhibits with a Culture-Easy Card.

One of the most popular exhibitions, the Famous Artist exhibition, has invited Shi Qi, a great Chinese painter, to exhibit his new works, including a sculpture piece on public show for the first time. And Zhou Changxin, who is devoted to combining Chinese color painting and western oil painting, will also bring over 20 pieces to the exhibition. Another popular exhibition, of Russian Classic Oil Paintings, will also display works by many famous and highly skilled artists.

The art market has faced great changes recently that have affected the choice of displays at exhibitions. The Beijing Art Expo this year will not only exhibit famous artists' work, but will also show pieces by young artists, which are mainly priced at 20,000-50,000 yuan.

Wu said that the Expo has discovered the potential of many young artists and recommends their works to art collectors. Works at various prices satisfy the different needs of consumers. He added that the Expo mainly shows the work of living artists, so that it is able to commission pieces, guaranteeing their suitability and quality.
