As instructed by the Beijing Municipal Commission of Health and Family Planning, the Beijing Emergency Medical Center has sent a medical team to the upcoming G20, which will be held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province from September 4 to 5. The team consists of 14 administrative staff, 30 doctors, 30 nurses, 30 drivers and 30 ambulances, according to Liu Hongmei, deputy director of the center.

Since arriving in Hangzhou on August 22, the team has been in work mode, coordinating with G20 headquarters and medical institutions, learning about local roads, maintaining medical facilities and debugging communication equipment.

Liu said that the 30 ambulances, equipped with respirators, defibrillators, glucometers, blood pressure meters, trauma first aid kits and other equipment, can be seen as 30 mobile emergency rooms. They also carry some oral medicines, including compounds for gastrointestinal disease, heart trouble and endocrine system disease.

Data can be transmitted between ambulances and medical institutions point-to-point and in real time. “For example, if a patient needs further treatment in a local hospital, all the test data in the vehicle, such as blood pressure and heart rate, will be synchronously transmitted to the hospital. Upon arrival the patient can receive treatment immediately.”

Plans are for the 30 ambulances and staff to serve 28 core hotels and two conference centers.
