The Sanqingyuan company started a Sanqingyuan Theater rebuilding plan in 2013, and on July 21, 2014, the theater laid down its foundation guided by Qinghua University architectural experts. Now, after two years' work, a brand new theater with a wider stage and modern equipment has opened.
Many Beijing Opera experts and fans attended the opening ceremony on August 18 and enjoyed various shows. According to Li, the hundred-year-old theater will put on opera combining traditional culture and modern art. The intention is that it will become a tourist attraction with cultural and commercial value.
Li added that beside Beijing Opera Sanqingyuan Theater will also present music opera, modern drama and other kinds of shows. It will provide internships and job opportunities to opera students and help teach young people about Beijing’s cultural history.
It’s hoped that Sanqingyuan will also become a traditional commerce center with many old famous stores once again serving the public. The vision is that Sanqingyuan’s charm will attract more tourists to preserve its cultural heritage while creating economic benefit.
