The curtain fell on the finals of the National Electronic Arena (NEA) 2016 at the Bird Nest stadium in Beijing on July 3rd. Sixteen teams and individual players entered the finals of DOTA 2, CS:GO, Hearth Stone and FIFA Online 3 after one month of online auditions.
The format of the final is a best-of-three, single elimination bracket. Both teams of four and individual players sealed their victory after three days of fierce competition.
TYLOO beat VG. Cyber ZEN and claimed the championship title of CS:GO, while IG met Newbee in the final of DOTA 2 and won the game with an improbable comeback of 2-1. Song Di, the leader of TMT team, beat Deng Shiping (ID: caidao) on penalties of FIFA Online 3.
The four finalists of the Hearth Stone were well-matched in strength and “Zhu Ran Deity General” secured his first place with a hard-fought win of 3-0 over “Hard Wind”.
The gaming competition also invited the most popular anchors of e-sport games to give the audience a running commentary.
Seven mobile games exhibition matches and board role-playing games ( BRPG ) were also played at the Bird Nest stadium.
The NEA 2016 was a Chinese-only tournament, co-hosted by the Beijing Sports Competitions Administration Center, the National Stadium, and the Tongfang Medium. Panda TV exclusively broadcast all 60 games live online, making the competition available to over 5 million viewers.
NEA is designed to be the “Olympics” of the featured e-sport games, with a wide range of civil participation and competition, Li Wenliang, the secretary-general of the NEA organizing committee, said.
According to Li Jianhang, the COO of Tsinghua Tongfang, Tongfang’s involvement in the game as a co-organizer is a step forward for its strategic plan in the gaming industry. The company has acted to grasp the market opportunities by promoting a revolution in game mechanical modularity and exhibiting its virtual reality backpack in Computex 2016 and planning to unveil more VR games to bring subversive sensory experiences to consumers.
