The Beijing international tea exhibition will be held in Beijing from June 24 to 27. A tea culture exhibition and festival will be staged at the same time. The event is jointly sponsored by the China Tea Marketing Association, the Beijing Xicheng district and the Anhui Huangshan governments, and will cover an area of 26,000 square meters in the Beijing Exhibition Center and Maoliandao street.
“China is the hometown of tea,” says Wang Qing, executive vice chairman of the tea association, adding that China is the biggest tea consumer worldwide. The country’s tea output will be 2.4 million tons in 2016, with an output value of dry semifinished tea of over 160 billion yuan.
China’s tea plantations covered 2.88 million hectares in 2015, and tea output reached 2.28 million tons, or 43.8 percent of the world’s total. The country consumed 1.76 million tons of tea, 36 percent of worldwide consumption.
The tea exhibition will feature 900 standard booths, including ones from Xicheng, Huangshan, Sichuan, Hunan, Taiwan and foreign countries. In addition, tea food, tea sets and media will also have dedicated sections. A wide range of products, including black tea, red tea, white tea, yellow tea and green tea will be featured.
The international section is a highlight of this year’s event. Tea enterprises from a dozen countries and regions, including India, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Turkey, South Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Germany, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Japan will be present. The event’s organizing committee will work with Australia’s special tea association to host an international tea taster competition, which is expected to help Chinese tea reach world markets.
In addition, a series of poverty alleviation activities will be staged. A Fujian company will offer support to Chixi village through charity sales and donations. The Western Hunan Tea Industry Development Association will be present to boost tea development in the Wulingshan region through exhibition and promotional sales.
Tea culture and tourism will be integrated at the tea expo. The Xicheng government signed a memorandum with the Huangshan government to deepen friendly cooperation. Their tourism and food safety authorities will also sign a cooperation agreement.
The international tea culture exhibition will help Xicheng develop a culture and business tourism integration platform. Xicheng will roll out unique tea-themed travel routes and tips revolving around Maliandao, while offering the public traditional tea performances.
