Chaoyang district to serve Beijing's sub-center development

Chaoyang will focus on treatment of the Xiaotaihou river, which consists of seven tributaries, and develop wetlands and green belts in the river networks to showcase waterfront leisure ecology and distinctive history and culture.

By the end of 2016, Chaoyang will strive to bring the water quality in nine rivers flowing to Tongzhou up to standard and eliminate wastewater that runs 51.46 kilometers in 19 river sections. All wastewater is expected to be removed from those rivers by 2017, and 80 percent of the water in major areas overall will be free of it by 2020. At the same time, Chaoyang will help with the construction of three water regeneration facilities in Gaoantun, Dingfuzhuang and Qinghe and develop sewage collector and reclaimed water pipelines.

Develop ecological environment belt

Expanding green space is an important part of the sub-center development. At the end of 2015, Chaoyang's forested land stood at 143,000 mu (9,500 hectares) and its urban green lands covered an area of 15,000 hectares, with an afforestation rate of 47.5 percent.

Chaoyang will create an ecological environment belt between Tongzhou and the neighboring areas of Beijing consisting of the Wenyu River, urban and countryside parks, and lakes and rivers. A national forest park, an agriculture park, and countryside and community-based parks will also be built.

Development of a large-scale wetland park near Sunhe River will be sped up this year. Urban flood control functions will be optimized at the same time to improve the environment around Wenyu and Qinghe. The park will be the biggest of its kind in central Beijing when its construction finishes in 2020 and play an important role in ecology protection and recreation.

Integrated and coordinated industry mechanism

Chaoyang, in partnership with its various business associations, will take advantage of its well-developed modern services national culture innovation pilot zone and central business district to strengthen technology, culture and financial service integration and development. The resulting integrated and coordinated industrial platform will boost Tongzhou's development, and encourage Chaoyang enterprises to invest in Tongzhou, which in turn will advance Tongzhou’s industrial and urban integration and commercial-residential balance.
