Recently, a twelve-person delegation composed of engineers, professors from the Architectural Design and Research Institute of Tsinghua University (THAD) and engineers from the School of Civil Engineering at Tsinghua University took a field trip to Myanmar.
Last March, a feasibility study of the reconstruction of the Myanmar National Art Theatre and the Myanmar National Indoor Stadium was launched and THAD was appointed as the project director. This January, a Sino-Myanmar aid cooperation agreement was signed. Four months later, the delegation set off to Myanmar.

China provided assistance in the construction of the Myanmar National Art Theatre and the Myanmar National Indoor Stadium in the 1980s. Both buildings have been used for 24 years, and the aging problems have become increasingly serious. The Ministry of Myanmar National Planning and Economic Development and the Ministry of Myanmar Culture now plan to rebuild them.
The delegation held talks with Myanmar officials to ask about the current condition of the buildings and reconstruction requirements, and undertook field tests and surveys.

The National Art Theatre and the National Indoor Stadium are the important fruits of Sino-Myanmar cultural exchanges. According to a Myanmar official, the buildings are frequently used as the main venues for Myanmar cultural and sports events. Cooperation in their rebuilding will turn over a new leaf in Sino-Myanmar friendship.
The delegation also met with some officials of the Embassy of China in Myanmar, including Ambassador Hong Liang, Cultural Secretary Tian Shanting and Office Director Zhang Peng.
