Capital aims to advance cooperation on innovation
The 19th China Beijing International High-Tech Expo will help the exploration and development of new scientific and technological concepts and models, said Beijing Mayor Wang Anshun.
At a symposium in Beijing on Wednesday, Wang said this year's expo, which started on the same day and will run through Sunday, will display the newest scientific and technological research results and products, discuss development ideas and promote cooperation.
He said Beijing is working on becoming China's scientific and technological innovation center and will continue to nurture new technologies and industries.
The city also plans to further regional cooperation on scientific and technological innovation while carrying out national strategies, such as the integration and development between Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei province and the Belt and Road Initiative.
Main activities at the 19th expo include exhibitions in the China International Exhibition Center in Beijing, six themed forums and several promotional activities.
State-owned companies and research institutes, including Beijing-based China Shipbuilding Industry Corp and the China Academy of Space Technology, are showcasing their leading technologies at the exhibitions.
Artificial intelligence technology is one highlight at the expo. New virtual reality technologies and products and intelligent robots, including underwater ones, are being displayed at the event.
The State Oceanic Administration is displaying the newest marine scientific and technological achievements under the theme of "developing marine economy and helping the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road initiative".
A promotion and exchange meeting was held on Thursday to help promote internationally marine cooperation and discuss marine technological innovation as well as development models of maritime economy, according to the organizers.
Other promotion and communication activities include a meeting focusing on investment and financing of scientific and technological projects and a promotion activity for environmental protection projects.
The China Finance Forum, which starts on Friday and will run through Saturday, will discuss hot topics in the macro economy and finance fields, especially those having profound influence on Chinese economy.
This year's expo attracted representative groups from 34 countries and regions and more than 1,500 domestic and foreign high-tech companies, colleges and research institutions.
Organizers of the event include the Ministry of Science and Technology, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and the Beijing government.
The expo, which was launched in 1998, has welcomed more than 5 million participants in its history. Totally, 5,074 noted scientists, economists and leaders from companies have delivered speeches at the previous events.
