Officials of the Beijing international tourism exhibition, scheduled for May 18-21, have announced in Beijing that they are preparing an amazing variety of exotic activities and products for visitors, with the exhibition area 30-percent larger than for last year's, at 6,500 square meters.

The announcement came from Jia Limei, one of the organizers at the Beijing Municipal Commission of Tourism Development, on April 27, who said that more than 28 countries have signed up for the annual global tourism gala and added, "Many countries are joining our event here for the first time this year, including Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Madagascar, the Philippines, Tunisia and Venezuela."

Jia went on to explain, "We call this 'big touristic diplomacy', which is consistent with President Xi Jinping's foreign policy, where China has strengthened its relations with its neighbors, and countries along the ‘One Belt, One Road Initiative', as well as Latin American countries."

And, this huge market really appeals to possible destinations. For example Indonesia, whose Information, Social and Cultural Affairs counselor at its embassy in Beijing, Santo Darmosumarto, commented, "We hope to promote various beautiful islands to Chinese tourists through this event, not just Bali," then adds that his country has set an ambitious target of 2.1 million Chinese visitors this year.

In fact, the number of Chinese traveling abroad has grown rapidly, with more than 120 million going overseas in 2015, up 12 percent year-on-year, and spending $104.5 dollars, according to Xinhua News Agency in a recent report.

According to the Tourism Commission’s Jia, the event is expected to attract over 1,000 representatives, including airlines, travel agents, government entities, and companies.
