German luxury automaker brings its latest stars to the Auto China 2016, which runs from Monday through May 4 at the Beijing International Exhibition Center, Li Fusheng and Hao Yan report.
The all new BMW X1
The all new BMW X1 long wheelbase version treats the Chinese premium compact segment to an even more potent shot of Sports Activity Vehicle. The new generation will set another benchmark with superior competitiveness for its perfect exterior, roomy design, stunning technologies and luxury configurations.
The X1 launched in 2009 has sold more than 800,000 units. The new SAV is exclusively developed for Chinese customers, simultaneously on the same platform of the second-generation BMW X1. Inheriting the carmaker's global quality standard, the research and development focuses on Chinese user habits and demands.
The BMW's latest generation of power unit, the four-cylinder turbocharged B family, matches perfectly with the newly developed six-speed manual or eight-speed Steptronic transmission, and output ranges from 110 kW to 170 kW.
The xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system also takes its place in the new BMW X1 in a further developed form, helping reduce fuel consumption by up to 17 percent, model-on-model.
The weight-saving, compact and efficient system uses an electro-hydraulically controlled multi-plate clutch to distribute drive between the front and rear axle as required for the situation at hand.
The interior of the new BMW X1, meanwhile, offers significantly more space for passengers and luggage, a cutting-edge premium ambience and functionality grounded in solid engineering.
A host of innovative equipment features also help to secure the new BMW X1 its standout position in the segment. Among the items on the options list are full-LED headlights, Dynamic Damper Control, the BMW Head-Up Display and the Driving Assistant Plus system.
BMW 740Le
The plug-in hybrid variants of the new BMW 7 Series allow driving pleasure, long-distance comfort and luxury to be experienced in combination with an all-electric, emissions-free mobility. The BMW 740Le sports a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, paired with an electric motor to power either the rear or all four wheels.
The model showcases supreme dynamics, yet also records an average fuel consumption of 2.1 liters per 100 km and electricity consumption of 12.5 kWh.
Intelligent energy management optimizes the interplay of the combustion engine and electric motor.
Working intelligently together, the combustion engine and electric drive system bring a system output of 240 kW and a combined peak torque of 500 Nm.
Immediate response to every movement of the accelerator and sustained delivery of dynamic power allow the model to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds.
The Executive Drive Pro Suspension control system ensures exceptional driving comfort.
BMW will be transferring its BMW i expertise to its 'core brand' models and, as of July 2016, all electrified BMW models will be labeled BMW iPerformance. This includes the BMW 740Le iPerformance, which will be available later this year.
BMW M760Li xDrive
The new BMW M760Li xDrive is having its Asian premiere at the Beijing Auto Show. With a new 6.6-liter M Performance TwinPower Turbo, 12-cylinder petrol engine, the car has an output of 448 kW at 5,500 rpm and peak torque of 800 Nm at 1,500 rpm.
Power transfer is via the state-of-the-art eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission as standard, allowing the flagship model to sprint from zero to 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds. It has an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h or 305 km/h with the M Driver's Package.
The M Performance tuning of the shift programs has been specially adapted to the characteristics of the 12-cylinder engine.
The M aerodynamic package with larger air intakes in the front apron and exclusive 20-inch M light-alloy wheels in the double-spoke 760M design give the model an elegant and sporty appearance.
For customers looking to trade the overtly dynamic appearance of their BMW M760Li xDrive for a more discreet luxurious look, the optional BMW M760Li xDrive V12 Excellence is available. It alters the character of the BMW M760Li xDrive by deleting the M aerodynamic package and adding the Pure Excellence exterior design and Pure Excellence interior design packages, as well as 20-inch BMW Individual light-alloy wheels in W-spoke design and a bright chrome V12 logo in place of the model badge.
The model has a touch display for its iDrive operating system, which means customers can navigate around the system in the same way as with modern electronic devices.
Hand movements detected by a 3-D sensor control infotainment functions in an extremely intuitive and user-friendly fashion.
