Beijing Subway has introduced off-peak pricing to some stations of the Batong and Changping lines. Prices at 16 stations are reduced by 30 percent before 7:00 am every workday. On the first day, 33595 passengers got the discount.

According to the rough statistics by Beijing Subway, there were 9515 passengers entering the 5 stations of Changping Line, and 24080 passengers headed to the 11 stations of Batong Line before 7:00 am yesterday. Passenger flow at Shuangjing Station increased significantly, 5% higher than the same period of last week.

The off-peak pricing aims to ease the traffic pressure during peak hours. Reduced tickets, including one-day, three-day and monthly tickets, are still under discussion, according to Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport.

Beijing Subway will evaluate these policies, and decide whether to continue them after the trial period, Jia Peng, spokesman of Beijing Subway, said.
